Rapidly growing municipalities throughout Florida use geographic information systems (GIS) to compile data and visually identify trends and structure services to provide an influential and concise decision-making tool.
Towns and cities implementing neighborhood and downtown redevelopment plans use GIS to map sociological, economic and development trends in order to focus on and prioritize improvement processes.
Developers turning vast tracts of land into suburban communities use GIS to plot commercial and residential developments, and visually demonstrate tax base improvements while determining the levels and cost of municipal services needed to serve the new areas.
More than a mapping program, GIS is a powerful tool for assembling and analyzing inter-related and complex geographic, visual and statistical data into multi-layered and color-coded maps, as well as data sets and outcome modeling.
The accomplished GIS analysts at The Mellgren Planing Group produce map sets and data analysis faster and with greater precision than hand-drawn and CAD mapping.
GIS elevates the planning process to a more transparent level, translating complex issues into readily accessible, easily visualized and clearly understood terms and images.
OUR SERVICES
TMPG provides GIS services to satisfy a variety of needs, including comprehensive plan map updates, spatial analysis, current and projected land use analysis, targeted public notice announcements, and community visioning.
The TMPG team uses current GIS information compiled by governments and private sources to develop maps and analyze underlying data. We also undertake research to develop original data.
ADDITIONAL CAPABILITIES
We supplement our GIS services with other programs to update old mapping data or to illustrate proposed plans. TMPG analysts use CAD to convert old files into new GIS shape files. We also use SketchUp – a 3-D animation program – Photoshop and Illustrator to supplement visual concepts.
YOUR NEEDS
Establishing and maintaining a GIS department can be cost prohibitive. Outsourced GIS services not only can meet specific project needs, but can serve as a cost-effective extension of a planning department without the overhead expense. Retaining TMPG on a per-project, or a cost-recovery basis can help you complete GIS projects on time and within budget.
THE RELATIONSHIP
We meet with you to review and analyze your organization’s needs and jointly determine how our GIS services can help you with one or a range of projects. At the end of each project, we provide you with all of the data, shapefiles and associated layers for future use.
